What is the Gospel?

What is the Gospel?

The Gospel, what is it?  Well, the most wooden definition says that it is good news.  It’s a message.  1 Corinthians 15:3-4 says that it’s a message of first importance that Jesus died, was buried and rose again according to the Bible.

So, what is the Gospel?  The Gospel is the basic truth that begins with God.  He made you in His image.  Unfortunately, our sin creates separation between us and God — all have sinned and fall short of His glory.  But, the good news is that God remedied this problem by sending His Son to walk the lives of humans.  He was born, becoming an actual human being, lived the life of sinless perfection, died as a sacrifice for sin in our place, rose again and ascended to heaven where He rules and reigns and from where He will one day return.  The Gospel is the good news that God loves sinners and has done something to fix the problem.

We respond to the message of the Gospel by repenting (or turning from) our sin.  At the same time, we believe that Jesus has done this for us.  As a result, we no longer live for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again for us — we live for the glory of God.
